Alpina B6 GT3

After twenty years Alpina are returning to the motorsport. This small company has long and very successful history in international motorsport. Touring Car and F1 drivers like Niki Lauda, Jacky Ickx, Dieter Quester and Hans Stuck won three European Touring Car Championships, several Nürburgring 24 Hours and the 24 Hours of Spa in 1970.
Now BMW 6-series, super-charged 4,4 l V8 Alpina engine from the B6 S, which has 530 horse power and 725 Nm tourque will be used to challenge sportscars such as Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin in GT3 championship. After twenty years out of motorsport, ALPINA is coming back with B6 GT3 in the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship. This car is based on the BMW ALPINA B6 S street car. ALPINA team will race in FIA GT3 European Championship and in some important endurance races.

The idea of racing with street cars brings great success for drivers, spectators and manufacturers. ALPINA hopes that their involvement in GT3 championship raise awareness of the ALPINA brand in new markets. With its ten distinguished automotive marques, the GT3 Championship is the Crème de la Crème, and with starting grids of 45 cars in the European Championship and multiple national championships, quite compelling. With ALPINA long racing history they can see the benefits racing can bring.
Like in the 70s, ALPINA will sell BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 race car to private collectors, parties and race teams. This motorsport engagement will be ALPINA’s fourth business venture. It marks another milestone in ALPINA’s strategy of consistent, enduring growth. In addition to the race cars, ALPINA have been manufacturing road-going BMW ALPINA automobiles for over 40 years. A new ALPINA state of the art engineering centre in terms of its machinery and capabilities, will soon be completed. This will allow ALPINA to bring its products to market more quickly.
